The APERS Board of Trustees reviews fund performance on a quarterly basis and is focused on long-term performance. The investment objective is to maximize total return consistent with prudent risk. Short-term fluctuations shall be considered secondary to long-term investment considerations. APERS investments are diversified to mitigate the risk of large losses.
The total fund performance will be measured against appropriate benchmark indices as well as peer groups. Benchmark indices establish a relative measure to gauge the fund’s overall performance, as well as the performance of each individual asset class.
